Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
This year we have developed a new approach to Inclusion at Burbage Junior School, with the development of a new Inclusion Team. Miss Hannah Smith is our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO), and part of her role is to lead this team. She is also responsible for the school identifies and meets any additional needs that children may have, either internally through the school's own processes, by working with a range of external agencies, or by means of an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP, previously known as a Statement of Educational Needs).
Mrs Sam Dewick works Tuesdays to Thursdays as a Specialist Support Teacher. She has a particular interest in Dyslexia and literacy difficulties, and supports children either 1 to 1 or in small groups, and works with teachers to ensure strategies are used in all teaching for these children.
Mrs Geraldine Grantham is a Specialist Support Teaching Assistant, with a particular interest in mathematics, and she supports small focus groups supporting identified children to close any Gaps In Maths that might form a barrier to them furthering their development in this subject.
Mrs Georgina Bott is an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) who supports any children with any emotional barriers they may have to learning.
