Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
We have developed a new approach to Inclusion at Burbage Junior School, with the development of a new Inclusion Team. Mrs Jesson is our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO), and part of her role is to lead this team. She is also responsible for the way in which the school identifies and meets any additional needs that children may have, either internally through the school's own processes, by working with a range of external agencies, or by means of an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP, previously known as a Statement of Educational Needs).
Mrs Hardman is a Specialist Support Teaching Assistant. She has a particular interest in Dyslexia and literacy difficulties, and supports children either 1 to 1 or in small groups.
Mrs Grantham is a Specialist Support Teaching Assistant, with a particular interest in mathematics, and she supports small focus groups supporting identified children to close any Gaps In Maths that might form a barrier to them furthering their development in this subject.
Mrs Bott is an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) who supports any children with any emotional barriers they may have to learning.
